Originating in Burgundy in eastern France, Pinot Noir has been cultivated for more than 2,000 years and is considered one of the oldest wine grape varieties in the world. Its story is closely tied to the Cistercian monks of Burgundy, who spent centuries observing, mapping and defining the relationship between vineyard, soil and wine. In many ways, their work helped shape the very idea of terroir: the belief that a wine can express the place it comes from.
Even the name tells a story. Pinot comes from the French word for “pine”, a reference to the grape’s tightly packed, pinecone-shaped bunches, while Noir means “black”, referring to its dark skins.
Today, Pinot Noir is celebrated around the world for its fragrance, elegance and sensitivity to site. In Australia, it has found a natural home in cooler, elevated regions where bright fruit, fine structure and freshness can shine.
Our 2024 Eden Valley Pinot Noir is sourced from a single vineyard in Pewsey Vale, more than 550 metres above sea level, in one of the highest and coolest parts of the Barossa. This cooler climate has allowed the wine to develop beautiful aromas of dark cherry, complemented by subtle spice and a fresh, juicy palate.
Light to medium-bodied, vibrant and approachable, it shows dark cherry fruit at its heart, with a gentle savoury spice finish that makes it wonderfully food-friendly and easy to enjoy.
